TRAVIS SCOTT

As a tribute to this multi-platinum artist, I created a room that showcases Travis Scott merchandise such as the Nike x Travis Scott sneaker collaborations, sold out merchandise from La Flame’s website, as well as a custom Astroworld pinball machine designed by yours truly, and more.

The Collection

Among the many collectable items that can be found in this room is the Travis Scott action figure. I gave it a refresh by making the body gold to pay tribute to Astroworld album cover released in 2018. I designed the packaging to visually pair with the super deluxe album as a set for Cactus Jack superfans.

Another custom designed component of this room is the Astroworld pinball machine. Inspired by the nostalgia of visiting theme parks and arcades, it felt fitting to make Astroworld come alive in an authentic way, especially since Travis Scott named his last album after a beloved amusement park he frequently visited as a child, Six Flags AstroWorld. The cabinet was wrapped with tie-dye graphics to honor Travis’ love for tie-dye. A key moment is the play field, it holds a large gold head just like the one seen in the album cover. The red-orange apron graphics reminisce the artwork used to advertise the Wish You Were Here tour. Chrome rails and hardware, a nod to the millionaire’s interest for bling bling. A perfect square makes up the back-glass, intended to perfectly fit the album’s cover art. Astroworld graphics can also be seen scrolling thru the LED display panel for a complete Astroworld takeover.

Nike and Converse are some of the biggest clients I’ve had the pleasure working with. From a wide variety of small-scale projects to larger global projects, storytelling is necessary in order to amplify the narrative. Scroll down to view a few highlighted projects I’ve helped bring to life over the years.

Tailwind

The Tailwind running shoe debuted in 1978 at the Honolulu Marathon and was the first shoe to use Air technology. But what made it visually stand out was the use of the color Light Photo Blue. Our goal was to highlight the important role that Air MI (Air Manufacturing Innovation) plays within the Nike product creation and manufacturing process while connecting the environment to the broader Nike culture. We created a space that felt creative, productive, and part of the Nike DNA through a common thread by leveraging Light Photo Blue.
The main attraction in the space is the wings sculpture we designed with an estimated 1,800 Nike Air bags in various shapes and colors ranging with Light Photo Blue and Volt tones—colors that juxtapose the past and the present. The sculptural wings represent the goddess of victory, Nike. With Air MI’s many successful victories innovating Air technology, it was more than justifiable bringing that language onto the ‘Revolution in Motion’ sculpture.

Air Zoom Alpha

By 1996, Air had captured the imagination of athletes worldwide, and runners in particular. The AZA (Air Zoom Alpha) was introduced a low-profile sensation for runners. The shock-absorbing running shoe showcased running-specific cushioning with four bottom-loaded, anatomically-positioned pods for full-length, toe-to-heel benefits. The new technology at the time resulted maximal running efficiency, and laid the foundation for decades of running innovation.

Our team utilized the AZA building on the Nike Campus as a canvas to epitomize the revolutionary Air Zoom Alpha shoe and the future of Air.

In the vestibule we designed a backlit Air logo embedded in white perforated mesh, balancing low-profile with forward-thinking. To continue the story forward movement, we created an AZA-inspired mural in the manufacturing that seamlessly transitions onto a glass wall to emit the energy of Zoom. Volt is a fluorescent yellow-green color that Nike has been using since the 90’s and was featured in the 1996 AZA shoe, so our team utilized the unique color across many sites throughout the building—establishing energy, dynamic, and speed.

Star Series

Converse collaborated with legendary footwear designer, Tinker Hatfield, to create Star Series by unifying Converse’s heritage with Nike’s revolutionary footwear technology. Intended to function as an on and off-the-court, the minimalist basketball shoe is perfect for everyday use.

Our team was tasked to design a unique retail display at their iconic New York Converse store. We were inspired by the tech-forward and experimental nature of this collection and felt a workshop environment with a minimalist approach was the way to go. We crafted two large laboratory-inspired plinths—one plinth stands upright and leans on the existing framework, providing an elevated look for the displayed footwear. The second plinth lays lengthwise, serving as a try-on shoe bench and storage space that eliminates clutter. The white seen throughout the area takes on a fresh-clean-canvas approach, while the transparent orange acrylic draws from the orange three-quarter-inch band wrapped around the shoe’s upper.

ERX

Launched in 1988, the ERX was a shoe that embodied the toughness of late ’80s basketball. Equally balanced with bulk and tech, the bold basketball shoe featured Converse's Energy Wave technology which provided enhanced cushioning and sparked the Energy Return Multiplier (ERX) moniker. Three decades later, the sneaker that encapsulated tough hard-working wearers was back with the help of streetwear designer, Don C.
Our team was assigned to unfold the ERX story and bring it to life at the Converse SoHo flagship store. We pulled inspiration from the bold and unique footwear served as a platform for materiality throughout the space. Our team also broke down what iconography and materiality represented street basketball in New York—bridging the gap between the basketball court and the streets, through Don C’s vision.

Throughout the space we utilized corrugated metal, chain link, and neon signage to visually introduce the look-and-feel of urban-inspired spaces. We divided the space into two large chain link enclosures to break up the footwear packs Jewel vs Metal, just like two teams battling it out on the court. We’ve incorporated a variety of textural basketball graphics, court lines,

and material swatches found in the ERX footwear throughout the space. Additionally, the cages intersect, are angled, and nonparallel to the existing wooden framework, raising street culture awareness with disruption. Lastly, located at the center of our retail display, is an angled backboard pedestal with a concrete base that serves as a footwear display—maintaining the street culture language.

As an avid vinyl figure collector—I saw an opportunity to use my 3D skills to digitally mashup real-life objects such as beer bottles, sauce bottles, containers, tools, and more, with established vinyl to create new possibilities.

Janky Detergent

If you ask one hundred people what laundry detergent comes in an orange container, most people, if not all, will say Tide. This well-known brand was a perfect fit for the Janky figure because the clear-blue-cap seen throughout many Tide products was a great fit for a hat, or rather, a cap. The rest of the figure is highlighted with bright orange

—a nod to the container we see isles away at the grocery store.
