Air Zoom Alpha

By 1996, Air had captured the imagination of athletes worldwide, and runners in particular. The AZA (Air Zoom Alpha) was introduced a low-profile sensation for runners. The shock-absorbing running shoe showcased running-specific cushioning with four bottom-loaded, anatomically-positioned pods for full-length, toe-to-heel benefits. The new technology at the time resulted maximal running efficiency, and laid the foundation for decades of running innovation.

Our team utilized the AZA building on the Nike Campus as a canvas to epitomize the revolutionary Air Zoom Alpha shoe and the future of Air.

In the vestibule we designed a backlit Air logo embedded in white perforated mesh, balancing low-profile with forward-thinking. To continue the story forward movement, we created an AZA-inspired mural in the manufacturing that seamlessly transitions onto a glass wall to emit the energy of Zoom. Volt is a fluorescent yellow-green color that Nike has been using since the 90’s and was featured in the 1996 AZA shoe, so our team utilized the unique color across many sites throughout the building—establishing energy, dynamic, and speed.
